Sweet 16 feature

Alberta Sweet 16

The Sweet 16 project came about when 9 municipalities in central Alberta came together to collaborate on a tourism initiative for the region. Now on our third year, we continue to update/adapt the website created in 2008 and promote the events calendar with supporting print materials.

  • We love the attitude of the CAT committee: let’s work together to cross-promote our individual events. By serving the region, each community benefits.
  • The “16″ comes from the notion that counting from May long weekend (Victoria Day) to September long weekend (Labour Day), there were 16 weekends of summer in 2008.
  • The summer promotion was initially so successful we added a Winter version (and switch up the website with colours to match).

We were all honoured when in 2008, the project was shortlisted for the Marketing Partnership award at the ALTO Awards. And in 2009 we won it! The Sweet 16 also received a Marketing Partnership award from CAEP! Of course CAT appreciated the recognition, but even more importantly, the Alberta Sweet 16 initiative attracts and brings back thousands and thousands of tourism dollars for the region (we estimated that in 2009, the return on investment was over a million dollars, based on unique visitors to the website attending just one event).
