A little while ago we wrapped up the redesign of the website for Blackfalds Public Library. It was a really fun website to design - first because I'm a giant nerd who loves books and libraries, but also because everybody at the library was really open to a whole new look. There's a lot of great resources on the site, and information about fun programs, art shows and events that the library puts on (Wii week!). Check it out: their new website.

I fancy myself something of a writer: I can join words together into grammatically-proper sentences with some semblance of voice and personality. But I just learned something that has shaken my writing confidence. Apparently my skillz are not transferable across all mediums... writing for the web is DIFFERENT. You web users don't really read, you SCAN. Yikes!
So what now? I get myself some books on the subject and figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'll keep you posted on what I learn and how we can all take better online advantage of those crazy little things called words.

One of the main questions we get when we tell people what we do is, "Oh - have you done anything that I would have seen?" This is our opportunity to name-drop. We usually start with the Red Deer Rebels website, since most people in central Alberta are familiar with that. But now we have two more big names to brag about.

Back in September I started taking a photography class to try to get better at using an SLR camera. I love to take pictures, but wanted to get more informed about the technical side and get some tips on how to make my photos better (without having to resort to too much photoshop!). So I was pretty excited the other day when I got to go help take some photos out at the Gull Lake Centre. We took some photos of the staff and some of the great new facility. Everybody was really patient with us while we made them stand outside in the cold without jackets. I'm pretty happy with how they all worked out and will post them on our website once their new branding campaign official launches.

We've been working on the complete re-branding of Wolf Creek Public Schools for some time now and we reached another milestone. Today, Erin and I met with the administration from last of the 27 schools. The branding project started with the identity materials for the division office (website design, logo, usage templates, brochures, posters, ads, signage, photography, etc) and then moved into the individual schools. Our task with the schools has been to redesign all 27 websites to work with the school division's first class software (content management system) and design 27 new logos.

A land developer in Ponoka, Alberta came to us and needed a logo for their latest project. The issue they were struggling with was the area was known to the community as Chicken Hill, which they wanted to honour, but they were planning on building more upscale homes in the subdivision. To quote from our first meeting, "We want it to be a sophisticated Chicken image." No problem.

One of my favorite types of projects is a complete branding package for an organization. We've just begun work on the new Gull Lake Centre brand and should launch the new look in early 2008. The first step was a identity assessment and marketing strategy. The second step was to develop the new logo design to fit with their marketing strategy.

We've begun the website design for the Lotus Retreats. With a clean and fresh look the new website will feature strong photography balanced with refreshing colours. It is always great to work with a client that appreciates the subtly and balance found in great graphic design. We'll post an update when the website launches next month.
