It was a great weekend for one of our clients: the Alberta Donkey and Mule Club. Team Mule travelled to the Spruce Meadows Masters to participate in the Battle of the Breeds, armed with hundreds of Team Mule posters we created for them.

Red Deer Vital Signs 2008: New Project!

Written by Nicole Braseth Monday, 18 August 2008 08:47

"The Red Deer and District Community Foundation is preparing to launch Red Deer's Vital Signs 2008- the second report on Red Deer's community health that is part of a national initiative of the Community Foundations of Canada. It is an annual community check-up conducted by community foundations across Canada that measures the vitality of our communities, identifies significant trends, and assigns grades in at least ten areas critical to quality of life." (via Red Deer & District Community Foundation)

And for the second year in a row, Idea Market is excited to be designing the Vital Signs report for Red Deer (you can download last year's report here). The survey is still being filled out (you can be a part of it; though they are asking you to be from the Red Deer area to make the report as accurate as possible), so there's not much to say about the design of the report yet-- but we'll let you know once it's published and online.

Sigmund Brouwer Website: New Project!

Written by Nicole Braseth Monday, 18 August 2008 08:03

In the beginning, Sigmund Brouwer's website was targeted towards his young readership. As Sigmund expanded his writing into adult genres, his website didn't change to follow suit. Instead all of the content was included in the one website, making it unfocused and in need of an update. We've helped Sigmund before: creating the two blogs on his current page as well as doing some updating and web hosting for him, and now we're up to the challenge of rebranding Sigmund as a grown-up author with his own webpage (soon to be: www.sigmundbrouwer.com), and giving www.coolreading.com back to the kids.

Kello-Bilt Website: New Project!

Written by Nicole Braseth Monday, 18 August 2008 07:58

Kello-Bilt started from a farming families' need for stronger and more durable parts for their farm equipment. Not originally intended for manufacturing, the demand for the Kellough's product grew through word of mouth. Kello-Bilt still maintains the original legacy building products that are "strong, heavy and durable" and though these products are their best salesman, we hope to redesign the website so that it's just as good an ambassador for this central Albertan-grown company. This means a facelift and some reorganizing of the navigation in order to make it easier to use.

AELCS Website: New Project!

Written by Nicole Braseth Monday, 18 August 2008 07:43

Back in '05, Idea Market was put up to the task of designing the website for the Alberta Association for the Accreditation of Early Learning & Care Services (you can see why we abbreviate..). Now that we are older and wiser, we've been assigned to fix our mistakes. Kidding, of course. But we are doing some restructuring of the site as well as upgrading the existing CMS to a newer, better version, and really showing off all we've learnt about web development since 2005.

Summertime Workin'

Written by Nicole Braseth Monday, 18 August 2008 07:32

Summertime.. and the living is easy..

Anyone ever notice that it's about twice as difficult to get things done in the summer? Between employees going on vacation, clients going on vacation and people just generally dreaming about being on vacation instead of being in the office, sometimes you can't expect to get much accomplished in the summer months. Not this month however-- I'll be posting details about a ton of new projects we're starting, so stay tuned for all the new things in Idea Market's world.

Everyone will be famous for 15 minutes..

Nicole proudly displays the Wetaskiwin Air Show Souvenir Program to her adoring fans Nicole proudly displays the Wetaskiwin Air Show Souvenir Program to her adoring fans My 15 minutes of fame occurred at the Wetaskiwin Air Show of all places. No, I haven't become a Snowbird. Yet. But, under Steve's creative direction, I did design the Souvenir Program book for the Air Show. Above anything else we wanted the Souvenir book to really stand apart from other Air Show programs.. and I think we achieved that.. it was really quite something to see the program in the hands of hundreds, if not thousands, of people on the grounds of the Reynolds-Alberta Museum.

We started work on the program in the middle of June and 3 weeks later sent it off to the printers. We had alot to do: a cover design (and a photoshoot for the cover image), ad design (which had to be approved by all of the sponsors), t-shirt design consulting and then the layout, of course. Jadene (our contact with the City of Wetaskiwin) and I got to know each other pretty well after all our emails, phone calls and hours on Messenger, questioning punctuation, ads and image placement. After coming in on a Sunday before the deadline and then early on Monday, we put the final touches on everything and crossed our fingers it would be well received.

The folks over at the City (Jadene, Karen and Mya) invited us to be VIP's at the Show for the weekend. So on Sunday I hauled myself and a couple of friends out to Wetaskiwin to enjoy the beautiful day. After already feeling like rockstars in the VIP tent (seating! beverages! hot food!), Jadene whisked me away to do some schmoozing. It was an almost surreal experience getting paraded around to meet people (the Mayor of Wetaskiwin, people from the City and the Museum, some Snowbirds and even Bill Carter who personally complimented me on the design and said it was one of the nicest programs he'd seen) and then to hear the Air Show announcer announce ME! Thousands of adoring fans... me waving to the crowd... oh I could get used to that kind of treatment! Now where's my bowl of red M&M's? (I see one yellow candy and I'm outta here)

All diva impulses aside, it was a fantastic day at the Air Show and a great experience working on the souvenir program. There's even a chance we'll win an award for it at ICAS, cross your fingers!

New Project: A Couple of Chicks ask us to rework their website..

Written by Nicole Braseth Monday, 28 July 2008 11:53

Idea Market is pleased to announce the start of a new website project for A Couple of Chicks. We're excited for the opportunity to work with such a great online marketing company that specializes in an industry that WE specialize in (tourism).

We first met the Chicks at the Travel Alberta Industry Conference in October 2007, when they gave some talks on SEO. Since then, Carson and Steve were invited to attend their travelling road shows which spotlighted Social Networking, SEO and SEM. Keeping the professional relationship alive and kicking, in May Steve interviewed Alicia Whalen (Co-founder of the Chicks) for a Point B marketing podcast while attending the 2008 Online Revealed Conference in Calgary (Carson was speaking on the subject of website project marketing, Steve went along for moral support and to ensure everything looked good and worked well).

Through further conversations, the Chicks invited the guys to speak at the Online Revealed Caribbean conference and to redevelop their website based on the Idea Market Content Management System. The new site will launch in September to coincide with the Caribbean conference.
