Everyone will be famous for 15 minutes..

No, I haven't become a Snowbird. Yet. But, under Steve's creative direction, I did design the Souvenir Program book for the Air Show. Above anything else we wanted the Souvenir book to really stand apart from other Air Show programs.. and I think we achieved that.. it was really quite something to see the program in the hands of hundreds, if not thousands, of people on the grounds of the Reynolds-Alberta Museum.

We started work on the program in the middle of June and 3 weeks later sent it off to the printers. We had alot to do: a cover design (and a photoshoot for the cover image), ad design (which had to be approved by all of the sponsors), t-shirt design consulting and then the layout, of course. Jadene (our contact with the City of Wetaskiwin) and I got to know each other pretty well after all our emails, phone calls and hours on Messenger, questioning punctuation, ads and image placement. After coming in on a Sunday before the deadline and then early on Monday, we put the final touches on everything and crossed our fingers it would be well received.

The folks over at the City (Jadene, Karen and Mya) invited us to be VIP's at the Show for the weekend. So on Sunday I hauled myself and a couple of friends out to Wetaskiwin to enjoy the beautiful day. After already feeling like rockstars in the VIP tent (seating! beverages! hot food!), Jadene whisked me away to do some schmoozing. It was an almost surreal experience getting paraded around to meet people (the Mayor of Wetaskiwin, people from the City and the Museum, some Snowbirds and even Bill Carter who personally complimented me on the design and said it was one of the nicest programs he'd seen) and then to hear the Air Show announcer announce ME! Thousands of adoring fans... me waving to the crowd... oh I could get used to that kind of treatment! Now where's my bowl of red M&M's? (I see one yellow candy and I'm outta here)

All diva impulses aside, it was a fantastic day at the Air Show and a great experience working on the souvenir program. There's even a chance we'll win an award for it at ICAS, cross your fingers!
