The first Sweet 16 promotion of central Alberta events throughout the summer wrapped up at the beginning of September. Its success has prompted the Central Alberta Tourism Committee to continue promoting the events that make central Alberta a great tourism destination: even in the winter. This continued campaign starts this week (promoting Agri-Trade and Christmas in Markerville) and runs through til May 1st, 2009. From Stettler's Festival of Lights to Sylvan Lake's Polar Bear Dip in chilly February, there are all sorts of winter happenings to get you off the couch and into your parka.
The Winter edition of the Sweet 16 is being organized slightly different, however. Instead of promoting every weekend in the time period, the Alberta Sweet 16 is promoting events independently of their dates, as some of which occur on the same weekend as others, and some (such as the New Year's Eve with Gord Bamford) aren't on a weekend at all.
"It has been a great first year and the Central Alberta Tourism group looks forward to promoting the 2008 winter events and the new version of the Alberta Sweet 16 in 2009," says Dean Schweder, Tourism & Economic Development Coordinator for the Town of Rocky Mountain House and chair for Central Alberta Tourism.
